A leaking cistern tank can lead to ongoing water loss and further deterioration if the problem is left untreated. On this recent project, our team repaired and sealed the interior of a concrete cistern to create a continuous protective barrier.

The photos show the project before, during, and after the repair process. The original concrete surface had visible wear, cracking, and areas where water could escape. Before applying the new system, we prepared the interior so the repair material and protective coating could properly bond to the surface.

We then addressed the problem areas and applied a seamless coating throughout the cistern. Special attention was given to the corners, seams, and transitions, as these are common locations for leaks to develop.

The finished blue coating provides a continuous interior lining without the gaps or joints found in some traditional materials. It also creates a cleaner, easier-to-maintain surface while helping protect the concrete underneath.

Does Your Cistern Tank Need Repair?

Signs of a cistern problem may include:

  • A noticeable drop in the water level
  • Water appearing around the outside of the tank
  • Visible cracks or deterioration in the concrete
  • Previous patches that are beginning to fail
  • Damp areas that return after repairs

The right repair approach depends on the condition of the concrete and where the water is escaping. That is why the tank should be inspected before deciding on a solution.
